Fun was had by all players, parents and ‘buddies’ for Stafford Soccer’s new TOPS program. The Outreach Program for Soccer is a community-based training program for young athletes with learning and physical disabilities. The program is sponsored by Virginia Youth Soccer Association and affiliated with United States Youth Soccer.
Sessions were held at Pratt Park, allowing players to have fun playing games related to soccer. “The program allows us to give back to the community and gives our youth players a chance to volunteer as a Buddy” said Tim Conklin, Stafford Soccer President.
The program volunteers are called ‘Buddies’; they and assist players and make the experience fun. “It is heartwarming to see this many volunteer buddies and coaches come out in support of the TOPS program,” remarked Sean Harrigan, Stafford’s’ Vice President. Players from each of Club’s 3 programs (Recreation, Academy and Travel) participate as Buddies and did a terrific job creating a great and rewarding environment for all players.
Barry Hill, General Manager of Stafford Soccer said “It was great to see all the kids and the buddies working with each other.”
Participation numbers are Excellent. Stafford Soccer currently has 17 players registered for the TOPS program and has over 40 volunteer buddies and coaches. Sessions run each Saturday for 5 weeks at Pratt Park.

Stafford Soccer Logo
 
The “Stafford Soccer” shield is inspired by a classic “European” club crest and modern US Youth Soccer club. Navy and white “soccer” stripes are accompanied by a soccer ball that is prevalent in various American Youth Soccer Clubs. The main focus is centered on shortening the name “Stafford Area Soccer Association” to “Stafford Soccer” whilst keeping the SASA name as our official/legal name. The Stafford Soccer logo and name will be a more marketable and represent a new club direction. For instance, the three stars that were in the “Oval” logo are replaced by the one star which represents a “one” club representation. The logo also has a specific text that will be used for all programs and events such as: Camps, Clinics, Revolution Academy, Recreation, Pro Training, St Patty’s Tournament, etc.
 
Philosophy – A New Logo, a New Vision
 
The Philosophy is to update the oval logo with a cleaner more marketable logo. In the context of rebranding the club the new logo will represent a new direction for the club as the focal point. The logo can be compared to the US Soccer logo. The official name of our national organization is “United States Soccer Federation” which remains its official name, but the logo and marketing materials have a crest with “US Soccer” as its “catchy” name. Most people now refer to the “Federation” as US Soccer due to this new logo.
 
Logo Launching Scheme
 
The logo will be launched on the travel uniforms, which will be new for the Fall 2012 season. We will also use the logo for any website update(s). The text will appear on all promotional materials and any advertisements in local and regional publications. The travel program will spearhead these efforts as a natural “face” to the state and region. The club will slowly introduce the logo to the Academy and Recreation program as uniform inventory dwindles. The logo will create buzz and excitement around the various programs in the club. The end result is our members and organizations around the state refer to our club as “Stafford Soccer”.
 
Club Re-branding
 
The club-wide rebranding is essential to accompany the new logo with changes to the website, uniforms, tournament(s), and promotional materials. The club can shed the SASA name, which is sometimes confused with FASA, with the name change the club will differentiate itself. The club will educate the soccer community by showing we are redefining ourselves as a forward thinking organization that is well organized under the “club-centric” model.  Although the new logo is the center piece, a club rebranding is essential to the effectiveness of the change.
