  • Regular registration is December 12 through Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. 
  • Regsitrants who register after February 25, 2012 will be placed on a waitlist and will have a additional $25 fee assessed to their registraiton fee.
 
Registration costs are listed below.
  • Recreation is open to all.
  • U7 Revolution Academy accepts the first 20 girls and 20 boys who sign up.  All others will be placed on a waitlist.
  • U8 Revolution Academy accepts the first 40 girls and 40 boys who sign up.  All others will be placed on a waitlist
  • U10 - U14 Revolution Academy players are accepted based on a performance evaluation.

  • The Recreation uniform is $30 and includes a white jersey; blue jersey; 1 pair of shorts; white socks and blue socks. Individual pieces are available for purchase at the following costs: jersey’s $10 each; shorts $10 each and socks $4 each.
  •  The Revoltion Academy uniform is $45 and includes a white jersey; blue jersey; 1 pair of shorts; white socks and blue socks. Individual pieces are available for purchase at the following costs: jersey’s $20 each or two for $35; shorts $10 each and socks $4 each.
 
The Revolution Academy and Recreation season’s will begin March 31, 2012 and end around the beginning of June. Practices will begin around March 19, 2012.

]]> http://www.staffordsoccer.com/home/387312.html Spring 2012 U5 STARS Program 01/09/2012 03:28 PM http://www.staffordsoccer.com/home/292430.html The STARS program is designed specifically for the U5 players to include lots of fun games and activities which involve a soccer ball.  The program is structured around enjoyment, interaction, and movement while trying to eliminate the 3 L’s (laps, lines and lectures).

        ~ Sessions will take place each Saturday for five weeks beginning March 31, 2012 (No sessions April 7th and April 14th).

        ~ Each session will be 45 minutes in length.

        ~ There are 2 locations for these sessions, one in North Stafford (location TBD) and one in South Stafford (location TBD).  

        ~ Sessions will be at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. at both locations and 11 a.m. in the North only.

        ~ Enrollment is limited to 12 players per site and session.  This will allow for a low player-to-coach ratio and maximum coach interaction.

        ~ Cost is $45 per player.

SASA will run its first ever Spring Break Soccer Camp at Pratt Park for ages 4 to 14 year olds. The dates are April 9-13: the fields will be full of fun, laughter and learning.  Campers will learn new skills, develop their touch (control of the ball) and will instructed by a great coaching staff who have both playing and coaching backgrounds.  Director of Coaching Kyle Lessig (USSF "A") and GM Barry Hill (USSF "A") will direct the camp. 

The cost will be $125 for 9:00AM-12:00PM (U7 - U14) and $75 for 9:00AM-10:00AM (U5 and U6)

 

With a focus on fun learning, the older (U7 - U14) players will play from 9am to noon each day learning to enhance their soccer skills.
 

While the 4 and 5 year olds will play for an hour with fun soccer-oriented games and activities.

US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, ages 4-19, who has a mental or physical disability. Our goal is to enable young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the US YOUTH SOCCER family.

 
The program will begin Saturday, April 21st and will be held for 6 weeks, ending Saturday, June 2nd. There will be no fee to register for the TOPSoccer program and location and time will be determined closer to the beginning of the season. Registration begins Monday, February 6, 2012 and ends Saturday, March 24, 2012. Click here to register

Joining their fellow club mates with another Sportsmanship distinction are our U11 Girls Gold Travel team coached by Andrea Magrath and U15 Girls Gold Travel team coached by Marty Mendoza for receiving the Randy Rawls Sportmanship Award for the Fall 2011 season.

The prestigious award is named after Randy Rawls, one of the leagues original founders and its first President.  The award honors the winner’s sense of fair play, something for which Randy was renowned as he sought to bring soccer opportunities to the youth of Northern Virginia.  Randy has since retired to Florida where he authors detective mystery books www.randyrawls.com

We are so very proud of all of our Sportsmanship Award winners.

The program, run by SASA’s General Manager Barry Hill, brought the concept of group training to the age groups. Group training allows all players to get advanced training within the program to focus on player development and the ability to practice and play with and against different players each week.
“When players come in for practice or games we break them down into smaller groups so a coach can work with 8 or 10 players,” said Hill. “This allows players to get different coaching styles while all of the coaches are working off one, identical  session plan”

The change in the program is to try and improve the fundamental aspects of the game.
“We are trying to improve the basics of the game.” remarked Hill. “If the kids understand and can demonstrate the correct techniques on how to pass, dribble, shoot and control the ball it will help them become a better soccer player. Although we still have to remember that the kids are 7 and 8 years old we have made the sessions age-specific and fun”.

The program has also received very positive comments by parents. The group-training design allows for a greater number of options to car pool rather than the typical 10 players on team-programs. It also allows coaches to still run a positive and productive session if some kids miss a session. “We all know these kids have very busy schedules and sometimes kids miss a session for any number of reasons. We are able to adjust the player-to-coach ratio depending upon the kids who show up,” remarked Hill.


U8 Academy Boys (fall 2011)

The program has also restructured the game set up. Players now play in a 4v4 game on a smaller field with no goalkeeper. The smaller numbers allow players to have more touches on the soccer ball and more involvement in the game. “The way we play games allows the players to play and not worry about which team is winning or losing. If a team is dominating, as coaches we can switch players around to make a more even and challenging game,” said Hill. “It takes the pressure off the kids during game day. The focus on winning at all costs has caused players to leave the game at young ages. We want players to love the game and have a passion about it. Players can try new things without the burden of worrying about results or the pressure of winning.”
 

So far we have seen an improvement in both games and skill since the sessions started at the beginning of the fall season. It is not unusual now in games where 4 or 5 passes are being made. That’s a huge step for U7 and U8 players. From the prospective of coaching as well as learning the game, the program has been excellent so far and continues to improve.

Our U12 Girls Blue team took advantage of one of the programs DC United offers on this special event, to play on the pitch at RFK Stadium.  This is when our SASA teams play a short game on the pitch at RFK stadium against another youth team, usually from another club.

The players listed below have been identied, based on the November 15, 2011 tryouts, as potential Revolution Academy players.  Returning Academy players from Fall 2011 have first-rights to an Academy roster position.  Therefore, each of these identified players will be placed in a "reserve" status until registration for returning players has been completed  and it is determined how many openings in each age division are available, or if an addition team will be formed. Once it is determined how many openings are available in the different age divisions, players in reserve status will be contacted to fill those openings. In the meantime, all of these players should register for the Recreational program so we know they are interested in playing soccer in the Spring.

 
 
Please note, those listed on the "reserve" list who played Revolution Academy in Fall 2011 and only wanted to switch teams will be placed on another team.
 
 
If your number and initials are not listed, thank you for participating in the tryouts. We are happy to have you join our Recreation program when Recreation registration opens December 12, 2011.
