Dear HSL soccer community.

As we approach May, the 2014 spring league is off to a good start with full teams in the two Sunday leagues and now the Men's Tuesday night league and a consistently good turn-out for the Thursday night Women's league.

After talking and communicating with the commissioners a few issues have been raised.

1)  We are a few board members/commissioners short of a full board. HSL is a volunteer organization and without our volunteer board there would be no league and no games.  Board members attend about six meetings a year to plan seasons and review the league's finances. Commissioners are tasked with communicating with the captains and making sure the division is organized. We are currently three people short of a full board and need your help. Please contact me if you are interested.

If we can not find commissioners/board members we will have to consider paying someone to carry out that work (which would result in increased fees for those divisions to pay for person).

2) There have been a number of Yellow Cards (including once or twice when a player received two and the automatic Red Card) in the first two or three weeks.  Please remember, this is a recreational league and we all have to go to work the next morning. The league rules regarding accumulated Yellow Cards and Red Cards are below. 

3) If you are a college student and selected the reduced fee, you have until May 6 to send via email your proof of college attendance. If we do not receive proof of eligibility from you, we will have to charge you the discount you received during registration.  A picture of your college ID taken on your smart phone will do fine.  Please email these to: [email protected]

On a happier note:  

4) Starting at the midway point of the season (after the fourth games) players can join the league for the remainder of the season for 1/2 the late registration cost.

5) The summer 7 v 7 league will start on Wednesday, July 2nd and run six weeks to until August 6.  Registration will open in June.

Yellow & Red Card Policy:

• Accumulated Yellow Cards--3 yellows over the season in any division results in an 8-day ban from all divisions.
  • Two yellows in one match, resulting in a red card, count towards the 3 yellow penalty.
• Red Cards--Any straight red results in an 8 day ban from all divisions and may result in further disciplinary action at the discretion of the board and referee.
  • 2 straight reds in the season results in a ban for the rest of the season for all divisions.
