Coaches of the Year
Awards for the Fall 2006 - Spring 2007 Seasons

Congratulations to the Classic Division
Coaches of the Year for 2006-2007!

The Classic Division Coaches of the Year for 2007 are the team of Jeffrey Curry & K D Philpot on the girls side and Dan Visone on the coed / boys side. Congratulations to each for a job well done, for setting an example for the rest of us, and for embodying the ideal qualities of a "Classic Division Coach"!

Coaches of the Year:

Girls: Jeffrey Curry and K D Philpot
U08 Girls Team 801 - the Pirates

I’d like to recommend Jeffrey Curry & K D Philpot as the Classic Coach of the Year.  They’re great models for leadership and sportsmanship. When we played their team, Jeffrey came over and introduced himself to all of my players, and during the game he was extremely active as a field coach/ref, taking the time to explain to all the players the rules, why play stopped, etc. After the game, their team had a great cheer for our team, and they awarded one of my players a "top dog" award for great play and sportsmanship. They loved it!

Equally important is how active they’ve been on the league/coaching side. As I look to coach next season, the short time that I had an opportunity to watch how they operate gave me a number of great ideas as I approach the fall season. They’re great models for both the players and other coaches!

Coed/Boys:  Dan Visone
U10 Boys Team 820 - Stafford Stealth

I most enthusiastically nominate Coach Dan Visone of the U-10 boys Stealth.  Dan has the unique ability to extract the best play from the kids while allowing them to have fun and bond as a group.  Dan is always positive, encouraging, flexible and kind to the boys.  The boys know what he expects and are anxious to please him and to play their best for the sake of the team.  Practices are demanding but fun for boys of that age--lots of games and competitive play intended to teach various skills and aspects of the game.  Coach Visone keeps order without yelling and manages everything in the relaxed and quiet spirit that characterizes him.

From a parent’s perspective, Dan is communicative and helpful to the parents.  He understands the many demands on families and yet kindly and clearly communicates expectations and always lets us know the game/practice and various details and commitments.  Dan is always on time/early to practices and goes out of his way, despite his own busy work and coaching schedule, to give the boys his very best.  He has taught the boys so much and their record alone demonstrates how much this new team has grown and developed under his tutelage.  The kids enjoy each other and love Dan (aka "Coach Spidey") as a Coach.

Dan Visone would be an outstanding and deserving (and infinitely humble) choice for Classic Coach of the Year.
