Details: Classic Division Mentoring Program
If you are a new coach, or just feel that you are lacking in soccer and/or coaching experience, you are invited to seek some mentoring help from a Classic or Travel Division coach. The Classic Division has sought experienced volunteers from amongst the SASA coaching ranks who would be willing to help our new coaches for a practice.
The recreation coach can request the Classic (or Travel) coach to run a session on any topic (dribbling, short passing, receiving balls out of the air, goalkeeping, etc.), or the coach can request a session covering a myriad of skills in order to expose the coach to a broad base of ideas and activities. The experienced coach will provide you with literature, resources and information on USSF practice methodology; and will run a session while providing you with some of the coaching points you should be trying to teach the players.
It is important to understand that the Classic and Travel Division coaches are expected to be licensed (E certificate, D License, respectively). What this means for parents and players is that the coaches expect a higher level of focus during practice, BUT IT DOES NOT mean that practices are boring or not fun. Quite to the contrary, a substantial portion of all USSF coach training deals with making the activities fun and exciting so that the kids want to come back for more. The idea is to keep the kids in the game by ensuring that the kids love to play the game.
We have limited coaches and it is best to receive this help early in the season, so act fast. We are focusing on U10 coaches. Girls, coed, boys .... it does not matter. If coaches want to combine teams for a two-rec-coaches/teams, one-mentor session, that would be great!
To make arrangements to receive some practice help, start by contacting the Classic Director. He will make an effort to put you in touch with a local coach.
